What you will be doing:

  • Identifying and cultivating new sources of products. This can include Google searches, LinkedIn searches, tradeshows, trade publications, cold calling vendors, and building relationships with brokers and manufacturer sales representatives.

  • Creating a database of potential new suppliers, broker mapping to products, and back up sources for existing products in our portfolio

  • Communicating our value proposition to vendors to build excitement in the vendor community about our vision and mission.

  • Initiating meetings with potential vendors and Senior Category Managers

  • Becoming a product and category expert in the categories you are assigned.  You will learn key features, advantages, and benefits of products in the categories you are responsible for sourcing and you’ll utilize this knowledge in sourcing conversations with vendors.

  • Identifying and creating margin opportunities through buying positions as well as creative product selection

  • Analyzing product performance in your categories, looking at product mix, inventory turns, and excess and obsolete inventory. You’ll provide recommendations to senior category managers on gaps in assortment, item discontinuations, and consolidations.

  • Helping manage vendor deviations for specific customers where customers have negotiated directly with partner brands

  • Providing cross-functional coordination or action of product needs, product updates or setup adjustments, working with Customer Success team, operations teams at fulfillment centers, the catalog team, and/or senior management.

  • Helping facilitate supplier and broker product knowledge sessions as we roll them out

  • Other tasks or projects as assigned.

  • A desire to learn – no category manager experience required!

  • Coachable, flexible and self-motivated
